As some of you know, on Friday morning I decided to point my jeep south and drive to Arkansas. Driving in those conditions was not the smartest thing I have done in recent memory. I saw 6 semi’s, 4 SUVs, 1 pickup, a dozen or so normal cars, and 1 state trooper in various ditches. Oh, and one semi on fire in a parking lot…
What should have been an 8.5 hour drive took closer to 11 hours
My visit was fairly uneventful. I helped out in a scenic shop, marathoned a few seasons of Vikings, visited a couple of brewerys, took a tour of a distillery, and marathoned some more Vikings.
It was a wonderfully relaxed escape from reality. It also was a wonderful opportunity to contemplate a lot of things. Some of the subjects on my mind included whether or not I want to do my road trip this summer solo or not? Do I want to institute some random rule like no GPS while driving between stops? Do I want to modify my jeep into a sudo-camper? All of those subjects are going to be their own posts over the next week or two.
In other news it looks like my month long string of unemployment is coming to an end. Work as a local hand is picking up. Which means I’ll be starting to keep semi-civilized hours for now. I’m looking forward to getting a paycheck, but the loss of freedom is gonna take a while to get used to again.
