Well, I think I have officially survived the post tour slump. I mean I got drunk, cried at inappropriate moments, hung out with friends and family, and am officially bored.
So what have I done to fight off the boredom? A lot, and almost nothing all at the same time…
On New Year’s Eve I had probably the most tame NYE I’ve had in years. A friend and her fiancé hosted a game night. We started out with a game of Settlers of Catan, but after a few bottles of wine (ok I had a few bottles) we moved on to Cards Against Humanity. I want you to picture what happens when a roadie, a professional boy scout, an art museum security guard, 2 university alumni relations personnel, and an area coordinator for the Safe Place program play a game specifically designed to be offensive. It was glorious! Or maybe it was the bottles of wine… either way it was a wonderful evening.
Speaking of evenings… I really haven’t reset my sleep schedule yet. I mean sometimes I’m in bed by 10pm, sometimes 10am, and a few times I’ve just stayed up for 36 hours because I can. This is the ultimate in freedom, I’m really going to miss this when I start working again in a week or two.
Just because I haven’t been working doesn’t mean I haven’t been productive. I’ve been hermiting in the Garage and working on this prototype coffee table (among other projects). It’s not done yet, but I would like to point out that this “Farm Table” style coffee table has no screws, no nails, no modern fasteners. It’s all dove tails, dowel rods, and other fun methods. Once I get good at this method I’ll build a few out of something other than pine.
I’ve also spent a lot of time in the kitchen lately. These are the only photos I’ve snapped, but I currently have a months worth of single serving meals in the freezer. There are several different flavors of chicken with various sides, salmon and rice, and breakfast burritos for days! I also may have dehydrated a bunch of berries and bananas in preparation for a weekend adventure.
Speaking of adventure! I am finally getting around to marathoning Dr. Who. I know, I’m over a decade late to the party, but seriously this show is amazing. It also is how I am spending all of the hours I can’t think of something more exciting to be doing…
Speaking of exciting, this is a thing… it’s been pouring rain for hours, the temperature has dropped about 30 degrees in the last few hours, and we are expecting a substantial amount of snow throughout the night and tomorrow during the day. So what am I doing tomorrow morning? I’m hopping in my jeep and driving south for an adventure in Arkansas. This trip has been in the works for a few days now, but given the weather… yep I’m heading south for some adventure! I’ll be back when there is either less ice, or more work. Until then, adventures are abound south of the Mason Dixon line!
